How to make your Instagram grid

Three steps, about a minute. Everything happens in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

  1. Step 1

Open the grid maker and add a photo

Go to the Instagram grid maker and press Upload your photo, drag a file onto the editor, or paste an image with ctrl/⌘ V. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work. A sample picture shows until you add your own; to swap photos later, use Use another picture in the tool bar.

  2. Step 2

Choose rows, tile shape and framing

Under Rows, pick 1 to 6. Open the Tile shape menu and keep 3:4 unless you have a reason not to. Drag the photo to reposition it and use Zoom out, Zoom in or the slider; Reset position centres it again. Fit whole photo shows the entire picture with a padding colour, and Export settings holds the format, quality and that colour.

  3. Step 3

    Download and post in order

Check Your profile on the right: it updates as you edit, and the sun and moon buttons switch between light and dark mode. Press Download 9 tiles (ZIP) (the number follows your rows), then post tile #1 first. Under Ready to post?, press Show checklist and tick each tile as you go.

What is free and what costs credits

  • Splitting, all tile shapes, every export format and the ZIP download are free with no limit and no watermark.
  • Your last project is kept on this device automatically. Start over clears it.
  • Batch splitting, watermarks and AI upscaling come with Pro and Lifetime; they are launching soon.

Reading the result

  • The number on every tile is its posting order. The ZIP filenames use the same numbers.
  • Ready to post? checks your grid. A yellow Soft line means your photo is too small for sharp 1080px tiles: use a larger original or zoom out. If you picked 4:5 or 1:1, Use 3:4 switches back in one tap.
  • Tap any tile in the Your profile preview to save just that one, which is handy on a phone.

Troubleshooting

The grid does not line up on my profile

Check the tiles were posted from #1 upwards with nothing else in between, and that you used 3:4 tiles.

My HEIC photo will not open

Most browsers need a moment to convert HEIC. If it still fails, export the photo as JPG from your phone and try again.
